Witness Aid Services Unit - Notification Department
The Notification Department contacts victims for the purpose of obtaining a signed affidavit. An affidavit is a document signed by a victim verifying the accuracy of the charges made by the District Attorney's Office in the criminal complaint against the defendant. A signed affidavit eliminates the need for the victim to appear in court unless the case goes to trial and the victim's testimony is required.
The Notification Department also tracks court orders of protection, and tries to ensure that victims receive their copies as soon as possible. The Notification Department also assists victims in making requests for written notification of an inmate's release from a state correctional facility.
